 I recall having started the Bengal Tools Limited a little more than four decades back, as a precision tool room and soon expanded its product range to Shear Blades in collaboration with a British firm for service to steel plants, metal, paper and plywood industries. The company’s R & D division indigenously developed several items of defense field stores equipment for thermal plants and those for coal handling, and has been engaged in exports as well. Bengal Tools Limited’s engineering division is also specialized in manufacturing process plants and its clients include Bokaro & other Steel plants, ONGC, Indian Oil and Shipyards.I noticed in 1985 that India was taking a big leap in mechanization of agriculture. West Bengal being a rice growing state needed the Power tiller which was not being manufactured in the state at that time but was being brought from Kerala & Karnataka. |
| West Bengal was facing short supply of Power Tillers. After a thorough search of South Asian Countries where the Power tillers were initially developed and were extensively used, the company selected best manufacturing companies in world whose products were technologically advanced than those manufactured in Kerala and Karnataka. Thus a new “Agro Division” was born in nineties. Since then, the division has been marching ahead getting equipments manufactured at select plants around the world ensuring that power tillers are made to International standard specifications and its diesel or petrol engines comply with environmental norms specified by the State Agencies. The Power tillers are sold bearing the “SHRACHI LOGO” and remain the first choice of farmers throughout areas that have extensive rice cultivation. Bengal Tools Limited has extensive dealership-cum-service network with regional offices throughout the length and breadth of India. One of keys to success and growth had been an excellent congenial staff and labour relation for years, whose dedication deserves admiration. I am glad to know that “Agro Division” is growing at a satisfactory pace and looks ahead to scale new heights by adding many more Agricultural machineries under their banner and striving for a “One Stop Shop” in the field of agricultural mechanization.
